We made reservations at Dog River Marina (They are an AGLCA sponsor and seemed to have ok ratings, plus they had a courtesy car.) Unfortunately, they lived up to their name DOG. And that’s putting it mildly. All the reviews said they offered a free night if you filled up with fuel, which we did and surprise – no deal, no fuel discount for membership, and to top it off they charged a 40ft minimum…. The dock power was spotty, one of the legs of their 220 was not working so we needed to search for power and the marina crew was unhelpful….
Back to Mobile, who kept reminding us they originated the big Mardi Gras celebration, not New Orleans…. We took our rental car to the Naval Museum which featured the Battleship Alabama and the Submarine Drum. (WWII subs were always named after fish-go figure…)
We also went through a small, but interesting museum of Mobile history and a restored mansion . We ran out of time and extended our car for a second day. Saw the Mobile Bay museum and another Mansion.
The highlight of both days were the lunch meals!! Fresh oysters… (missing Columbia YC Wednesday specials. )
Switched to Mariner Marina across the Dog River, that was a better choice.
Very happy we stopped and enjoyed Mobile it was a wonderful time in the city.

Hi, you two adventurers! Thanks for the Mobile update! So sorry to hear that you “went to the DOGS for a bit, but happy to hear that you exited to a better marina with aplomb! One door closes, another opens. OF COURSE you found yummy memorable food! You both being famous foodies! Glad to hear that you are enjoying your buffing up on history along the way. Stay safe as you continue to have fun! Love and hugs

Never been to Alabama so I appreciate the tour & narrative! So glad you’re finding gems (and oysters) even on dog days. Keep sending updates from your grand adventure and stay safe. Miss you.

Today we finally received our first significant snowfall of the season. We open on Tuesday. I will miss you. Maybe in the future pick spots that don’t have the word DOG in it. Seems to be the first clue. Love all the pictures.

Too bad the Dog River facilities were a let down… but the Mobile Bay museum and the pics are neat to see. Keep posting.
And be happy you’re not up here. Wind chills feel like -15°. We’re fine — now with a little free time before Christmas.
Look for a text from me — do you have a recommendation on a brand of ski helmets ?
Happy for you guys — John & Elizabeth
